Motmots in Panama
Birds from Panama May 26th, 2008
The motmots or Momotidae are a family of tropical birds in the near passerine order Coraciiforme. Motmots eat small prey such as insects and lizards, and will also take fruit. Motmots nest in tunnels in banks. The long racket tipped tail feathers is believed to function as a sexual signal in the turquoise-browed motmot. The attched images here where taken most along the Pipeline Road and a few also along the Plantation Road bot inside the Soberania National Park in Panama. Some more pictures of Motmots and some Trogons can be found here.
