Pictures of some trogons and motmots from Panama

Trogons have soft, often colourful, feathers with distinctive male and female plumage. They nest in holes in trees or termite nests, laying white or pastel-coloured eggs.

Motmots have colorful plumage and long, graduated tails, which they move back and forth in a wag-display that commonly draws attention to an otherwise hidden bird.Motmots eat small prey such as insects and lizards, and will also take fruit.

Like most of the Coraciiformes, motmots nest in tunnels in banks, laying about four white eggs.

Trogon es un género de aves de la familia Trogonidae. Sus miembros posen una distribución Neotropical. Dentro de sus especies existen cerca de 60 subespecies.

Los momotos tienen el plumaje blando y las colas largas, que mueven de lado a lado. Las plumas centrales de la cola tienen una parte del astil desnudo, así que se parecen a una raqueta.

Los momotos se alimentan de presas pequeñas como insectos y lagartijas, y también de frutas. Como la mayoría de los Coraciiformes, anidan en túneles en las lomas, poniendo aproximadamente cuatro huevos.
