 Here is a list with just a few recommended birding spots in Panama, but you can hike almost anywhere in Panamas country side and find some beautiful birds. Just please be aware and if you don't know the terrain take a local guide along, especially in the rain forests its easy to get lost so better be safe the sorry! The Pipeline Road The famous Pipeline Road (Camino del Oleoducto) is one of the top spots for bird watching........... Plantation Road The entrance to the Plantation Road is a short few miles at the right hand side, after the Summit Garden on the road leading to Gamboa....... Parque Natural Metropolitano Only 10 minutes from downtown the Parque Natural Metropolitano is one of the most accessible tropical forests in the world......... Cerro Punta, Chiriqui Highland In the Parque Nacional Volcán Barú birdwatchers are looking for the Resplendent Quetzal.......... Santa Fe, Veraguas In the mountains around Santa Fe good area for extensive hikes around the Omar Torrijos "El Cope" National Park......... Summit Gardens Birds to see like the famous Harpy Eagle, the Kink Vulture for example and many others................... Soberania National Park in Panama With an extension of 19,341 hectares the Soberania National Park, located in the Province of Panama and Colon.......... Summit Ponds Here is another great spot to view some exotic birds: the Summit Ponds! Just in front of the Summit Nature Park.............. Lake Gatun – La Arenosa Rent a Boat at Lake Gatun - La Arenosa – Here is another great place to watch Panamas Birds..... Playita Resort Pedasi Combine spending a weekend on the beach, living among some Macaws, Emus, Golden Pheasant and other exotic birds..... La Tavida – Cerro la Vieja Cerro la Vieja (The old Lady’s Mountain) is located about 40 minutes up into the mountains from Penonome.......... The Panama Rainforest Discovery Center Tower: 100 feet observation tower - Forest trails: There is a 1.1 kilometer circuit of forest trails............. El Cope National park To drive to El Cope you turn off the Pan-American Highway about 20 miles after passing the town of Penonome....... Taboga Island Taboga Island is also a great place for a day trip or to stay over for a few days, its just a short boat ride from Panama City...... Punta Chame, Panama Punta Chame is a great beach to pass a nice day and besides some swimming enjoy the many sea and shore bird in the area.... San Lorenzo National Park San Lorenzo National Park. Spread over the west bank of the Panama Canal, on the Atlantic coast............ El Valle de Anton El Valle is a great place for a day trip from Panama or even to stay there for a few days......... La Laguna de San Carlos La Laguna de San Carlos is a great place to visit and it seams its a well guarded secret as not many folks know about it..... Coiba Island Coiba is a refuge for Crested Eagles and Scarlet Macaws, birds who have virtually disappeared from the rest of the Republic of Panama...... Achiote Road To get to the Achiote Road you need to cross the Canal at the Gatun Locks in Colon, then cross the bridge at the Gatun Dam.......... Boquete, Chiriqui Boquete is a picturesque village high up in the mountains of Chiriqui and a great place to start many possible bird watching tours....... Altos de Campana National Park Located in the Province of Panama about 50 kilometers (one hour drive) west from Panama City............. |
